Chika is a former New South Wales Liberal party leader and the first woman to lead a major political party in the state, 1999-2002.
She began her career as a solicitor before making the decision to enter parliament in 1991. After thirteen months in Parliament she was appointed Minister for Consumer Affairs. During her time as Minister, Kerry facilitated national agreement to the Introduction of a Uniform Credit Code. In Government, she held a variety of portfolios including, Assistant Minister of Education, Minister for Industrial Relations, and the first Minister for the Status of Women appointed in NSW. With her dual responsibilities of Industrial Relations and Women, Kerry oversaw the development and introduction of flexible working conditions for the public sector and the implementation of mentoring programs to encourage women to seek careers at the highest level of the NSW public service. Chikarovski also held the shadow portfolios for Infrastructure and Major Projects and Public Private Partnerships.
In 2004, Chikarovski launched her autobiography, Chika, and started her own government relations consultancy, Chikarovski & Associates.
She is an advocate for women in sport and is Chair of New South Wales women’s rugby union.
Kerry Chikarovski is Chair of Road Safety Education, and is a board director with Adopt Change, Humpty Dumpty, Our Watch, NSW Waratahs and NSW Rugby Union.
